CLIVE METCALFE

Clive studied  at Southampton Art College and Chelsea School of Art in the early 60’s. During this period he became heavily involved in the pop scene as a founder member of the pop group that later became ‘Pink Floyd’. He was having more success as a singer songwriter, co-writing a USA top ten hit, and the band (then called the Abdabs) seemed to be going nowhere. Clive left before the group became famous - a slight error.

Clive

The search for stardom finished when he left London to fulfill family commitments.

He continued to pursue artistic activities whilst holding down an interesting variety of careers and starting a few small businesses.

For fifteen years Clive worked as a designer goldsmith exhibiting at Goldsmiths Hall, selling to the leading craft galleries in the UK and also to Cartier/New York, Nieman Marcus/Dallas and Liberty/London. For eight years he was head of Jewellery section at Southampton Institute of Higher Education and was seconded to Sir John Cass London to teach and to write a Degree course.

During this period Clive met his wife Christa.   From 1999 to 2006 they set up and managed successfully the Metcalfe-Hofmann Studio Gallery in Deal, featuring Clive’s paintings and reproductions next to high quality craftwork by leading makers.    Building on his growing reputation, he is now devoting more time to painting abroad.

Clive is a member and prize winner of the National Acrylic Painters’ Association (2005). A selection of his work is held with The Bridgeman Art Library. Besides private commissions Clive’s work also includes a number of corporate commissions.  In 2006 he was selected for inclusion in a publication by Dorling & Kindersley (Acrylic Workshop).
